The Perfect 3 Days in Protaras

Ayia Napa’s calmer sibling: a string of golden, shallow, family-perfect bays along a paved coastal path, with a whitewashed chapel on a rock for sunset and Cape Greco’s wild cliffs at the end of the promenade.

Best time to go: late May–June or September–early October — the sea is bath-warm well into autumn. Getting around: the resort runs along one coastal strip, all walkable, with the 101/102 buses linking Protaras, Pernera and Ayia Napa; a car adds Cape Greco and Paralimni. Fly into Larnaca (LCA), about 50 minutes. Once your dates are in, Tripwise can search car hire in one tap.

Day 1 — Fig Tree Bay & the promenade

Morning — Fig Tree Bay. Regularly voted one of the best beaches in Europe, and it earns it: fine golden sand, shallow turquoise water and a tiny islet you can swim or wade to. Claim sunbeds early in season.
Lunch — on the sand. Kalamies at the water’s edge for seafood, or a promenade cafe — nothing here is more than five minutes from the beach.
Afternoon — the coastal path. The paved seafront promenade runs the whole length of the resort — wander south past Green Bay (the snorkelling favourite) toward Konnos, or north to Pernera’s little working harbour.
Sunset — Profitis Ilias. Climb the ~150 steps to the small white chapel on its rock above the resort — the whole coast turns gold below you. Dinner after at Vangelis Tavern, the town’s big traditional taverna, or Di Capilla for the coastal fine-dining end.

Day 2 — Cape Greco from the quiet side

Morning — Konnos Bay. Start at the horseshoe cove where Protaras meets the national park — sheltered, pine-backed and gorgeous before the boats arrive.
Midday — the Cyclops Cave & the cliffs. Walk the wild stretch of coast toward Cape Greco: the Cyclops Cave, sea-carved viewpoints, and the trails of the national forest park — bring water and a hat; there’s no shade out here, and that’s the point.
Afternoon — swim it off. Boat trips from Protaras run this coastline daily if you’d rather see the caves from the water; otherwise drop back to Green Bay with a mask and snorkel.
Evening — a rooftop. Sonja Grill & Wine or Nubila Rooftop for steaks above the strip; Montego on the shoreline if you want your sushi with waves.

Day 3 — Pernera, hidden coves & family classics

Morning — Pernera. The gentler northern end: Louma and Pernera Beach are compact, shallow bays made for small children, with the little fishing harbour between them.
Lunch — harbour-side. A taverna table at Pernera harbour, or breakfast-till-late at Siko Seaside on the water.
Afternoon — pick a cove. Connoisseur’s choices up the coast: shaded, bohemian Sirena Bay; cliff-framed Fireman’s Beach; the cave-framed sand of Malama. Or give the afternoon to the kids: the Ocean Aquarium up the road, and the Magic Dancing Waters fountain show after dark.
Evening — Paralimni. Ten minutes inland, the district’s real market town has the everyday Cyprus the resort strip doesn’t — a proper square, church lights and tavernas full of locals.
